Credit Card Consultant in India: What It Is and Who Needs One

    By Aadil Bandukwala & Dhimant Negandhi·Updated 2026-04-28

What credit card consulting means in India

Credit card consulting is a paid, independent service. You hire a consultant to look at every credit card in your wallet, your annual spend across every category (foreign currency, hotels, flights, fuel, utilities, insurance, education, healthcare, business expenses), your existing points balances across HDFC SmartBuy, Axis EDGE Miles, Amex Membership Rewards, ICICI iShop and the various airline and hotel programmes, and your travel goals for the next 12 to 36 months.

Out of that audit comes a written plan: which cards to keep, which to add, which to close, how to route your spend across the cards you keep, which transfer partners to use for the trips you actually want to take, and which award sweet spots to target.

The output is not a marketing recommendation. The output is a specific number: the rupee value you will extract from your card spend in the coming year if you follow the plan. For most clients, that number is two to ten times higher than what they were extracting before.

Who needs a credit card consultant in India

Credit card consulting is worth paying for if you tick most of these boxes:

    • You hold at least one premium credit card in India (HDFC Infinia, HDFC Diners Club Black, Axis Magnus Burgundy, Burgundy Private, Axis Atlas, Amex Platinum Charge, ICICI Emeralde Private, AU LIT, RBL Black, Yes Bank Reserv, IDFC Mayura, SBI Aurum) or you are eligible for one.
    • Your annual personal-and-business spend on credit cards is at least INR 20 lakh, and stretches anywhere upto INR 1 crore or more.
    • You travel internationally in premium cabins at least once a year, or you would like to.
    • You have more than INR 1.5 lakh worth of points lying unredeemed across your various card programmes.
    • You suspect your bank relationship manager is recommending the wrong card for you, or you have no relationship manager at all.

If your annual spend is below INR 25 lakh and you do not travel internationally, paid consulting is usually not worth the fee. The community, YouTube podcast, and free content are a better fit.

What credit card consulting is not

    • It is not a credit card sales channel. The consultant does not earn a commission when you apply for a card on their recommendation.
    • It is not a generic "best credit card India" listicle. The recommendations are personal to your spend, your eligibility, and your goals.
    • It is not credit repair or debt management.

    Why the independence matters

In India, the people who tell you which credit card to get usually earn money when you apply for it. A bank relationship manager is paid by the bank. An aggregator website is paid a referral commission by the issuer. A YouTube card-review channel is, in many cases, paid by the issuer or paid per application via an affiliate link.

Credit card consulting inverts that. You pay the consultant directly, the consultant recommends across every issuer in India with no commercial preference, and the consultant's only incentive is your renewal. That shifts the recommendation from "what pays the most commission" to "what extracts the most value for you".

    Frequently asked questions

Is credit card consulting legal in India?

Yes. Credit card consulting is an independent paid service. The consultant does not act as an agent of any bank and does not collect commissions. The service is bought directly by the cardholder.

How is this different from my bank relationship manager?

A bank relationship manager works for the bank and is incentivised to push that bank's products. A credit card consultant works for you, has no product to sell, and recommends across every issuer in India based purely on what fits your situation.

How much does a credit card consultant cost in India?

At The Great Indian Points & Miles Show, a single Strategy Session (Insider tier) is INR 23,600 inclusive of GST. The Premier annual engagement is INR 53,100 inclusive of GST. The Sovereign annual portfolio management service is INR 5,00,000 + GST, designed for HNIs whose annual card spend exceeds INR 2 crore. See the Strategy Session page for details.

Who needs a credit card consultant?

Indian residents who hold or are eligible for premium credit cards (HDFC Infinia, Axis Magnus Burgundy, Axis Atlas, Amex Platinum Charge, ICICI Emeralde Private, AU LIT and similar), travel internationally at least once a year, and want to extract real cash-equivalent value from their card spend rather than treat points as a perk.
