Premium Credit Cards in India 2026: The Complete List

    By Aadil Bandukwala & Dhimant Negandhi·Updated 2026-04-28

What counts as premium in India

For this list we treat a card as premium if it has a joining fee at or above INR 10,000, is positioned by the issuer as a flagship, or is offered only by invitation to high-value customers. The list excludes mid-tier travel cards (HDFC Regalia, SBI Elite) and excludes corporate cards.

The four cards that dominate the conversation in 2026

    HDFC Infinia (Metal Edition)

The most-discussed premium credit card in India. Joining and renewal fee INR 12,500 + GST. Earns 5 reward points per INR 150 on most spend (effective ~3.3%), with accelerated earning on SmartBuy delivering up to 33% on hotel bookings and 16.67% on flight bookings, capped at 15,000 reward points per month on accelerated. Insurance earns capped at 10,000 points per month; utilities at 2,000 points per month; education uncapped at base. Reward points redeem at strong values on SmartBuy partners and convert via Finnair to British Airways and Qatar Avios, plus a long list of airline and hotel partners. Best for high-spend households who can use SmartBuy effectively, who value unlimited international lounge access via Priority Pass, and who want a single workhorse card.

    ICICI Emeralde Private Metal (EPM)

ICICI's flagship and the most accessible of the big four. Joining and renewal fee INR 12,499 + GST, with 12,500 bonus reward points credited on fee payment effectively making it net ~INR 2,250. Earns 6 reward points per INR 200 (effective ~3%), with accelerated earning on iShop delivering 36% on hotel bookings and 18% on flight bookings, capped at 18,000 points per month. ₹3,000 EaseMyTrip voucher each at INR 4 lakh and INR 8 lakh annual spend. Insurance capped at 5,000 points per month; utilities, education and groceries at 1,000 points per month. Unlimited international lounge access for cardholder and one guest. Best for ICICI banking customers and for spenders who want the best mainstream all-rounder card with the easiest eligibility.

    HSBC Premier Credit Card

HSBC's premium card, tied to the HSBC Premier banking relationship. No joining fee; renewal fee INR 20,000 + GST, fully waived if you maintain the Premier relationship (TRV INR 50 lakh or salary INR 3 lakh+ into HSBC). Earns 3 reward points per INR 100, with accelerated earning on the Rewards Marketplace delivering 36% on hotel and 18% on flight bookings, capped at 18,000 points per month. The cleanest exclusions policy in India: base rewards on most exclusions (insurance, utilities, education, wallet load) up to INR 1 lakh per month, except fuel. Transfers to a wide partner list including Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, British Airways and Qatar Avios. Best for HSBC Premier customers and for international travellers who want the broadest transfer-partner network in the Indian market.

    Axis Magnus Burgundy

Axis Bank's current flagship for Burgundy private banking customers, and the spiritual successor to the legacy Magnus. Joining and renewal fee INR 30,000 + GST. Earns EDGE Reward Points at accelerated rates with tiered milestone benefits, and transfers directly to Aeroplan at the strongest ratio in the Indian market (5:4), alongside KrisFlyer, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, ITC Green Points, Japan Airlines, Air India Maharaja Club and other partners. Best for Burgundy customers running large monthly spend who want one of the highest-yielding milestone curves in the market.

    The HNI and international tier

    Axis Burgundy Private Credit Card

Invitation-only, sitting above Magnus Burgundy and extended to Axis Burgundy Private banking customers (TRV INR 5 crore+). Joining and renewal fee INR 50,000 + GST, waived for Burgundy Private customers. The highest-yielding Axis card by milestone structure when used at scale and the best EDGE Miles-to-airline route in the Axis stack at 5:4. For founders, CXOs and HNIs already in the Burgundy Private programme.

    American Express Platinum Charge

The international flagship of Amex in India. Joining fee INR 60,000 + GST, annual fee INR 60,000 + GST. Earns Membership Rewards points that transfer to KrisFlyer, British Airways and Qatar Avios at 2:1, Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 and Hilton Honors at 1:0.9. Strong on foreign currency, lifestyle, hotel elite status (Marriott Gold, Hilton Gold, Radisson Premium), and concierge. Centurion Lounge access at Mumbai. Best for spenders with significant foreign currency spend, who travel internationally three or more times a year, and who use transfer partners aggressively. Often the single highest cash- equivalent card in a portfolio when used correctly.

American Express Centurion (the Black Card)

By invitation only. Joining fee in the lakhs and annual fee in the lakhs. Adds bespoke concierge and elite hotel and airline status (Marriott Platinum, Hilton Diamond, Delta Platinum). For ultra-high-net-worth households only; the maths only works for very specific use cases.

    The practical second-card tier

    • Axis Atlas Credit Card. Joining and renewal fee INR 5,000 + GST. Earns EDGE Miles transferable to a curated set of airline and hotel partners including Aeroplan (1:2, the strongest Atlas ratio), KrisFlyer, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, ITC Green Points, Japan Airlines, Air India Maharaja Club and other partners. Tiered milestone rewards based on annual spend. Best for travellers whose annual spend sits between INR 7.5 lakh and INR 25 lakh and who prioritise direct airline transfers without Burgundy eligibility.
    • HDFC Diners Club Black (Metal Edition). Joining and renewal fee INR 10,000 + GST. The Diners-network sibling to Infinia with a similar but reduced SmartBuy earning curve. Strong on travel and dining.
    • IndusInd Avios Visa Infinite. A Qatar Airways Privilege Club / British Airways Executive Club co-brand from IndusInd Bank, the only Indian credit card that earns Avios directly. Earn rate sits at 1.5 Avios per INR 100 on retail spend (3 Avios per INR 200), with accelerated rates of 5 Avios per INR 200 on Qatar Airways and British Airways spends and on the chosen preferred international destination, no transfer step required. Niche, but the cleanest Avios on-ramp in India.
    • RBL Bank Black, Yes Bank Reserv, IDFC FIRST Mayura. Newer entrants with varying value propositions. Useful as supplementary cards rather than primary workhorses.

    How to choose between them

The honest answer: stop choosing one. The best premium credit card portfolio in India in 2026 is two or three cards used together. Typical patterns we see in client wallets:

    • The mainstream stack. ICICI EPM as primary all-rounder, HDFC Infinia for SmartBuy and lounges, Amex Platinum Travel for foreign currency.
    • The HNI stack. Axis Magnus Burgundy or Burgundy Private as primary, HDFC Infinia as secondary for SmartBuy, Amex Platinum Charge for foreign currency and elite status.
    • The miles collector stack. HSBC Premier as primary for transfer partners, Axis Atlas for Aeroplan and KrisFlyer, IndusInd Avios for Qatar.

Which two or three depends on your annual spend, where you spend it, and where you want to travel. That is what a Strategy Session is built to answer.

    Frequently asked questions

What income do I need for a premium credit card in India?

ICICI EPM and HSBC Premier are accessible from around INR 3 lakh monthly salary or a TRV of INR 50 lakh. HDFC Infinia is typically by invitation, often from a INR 3 lakh+ monthly salary or HNW programme relationship. Axis Magnus Burgundy requires Burgundy programme eligibility (TRV INR 10 lakh or salary INR 3 lakh+ into Axis). Amex Platinum Charge has no preset spend limit and underwrites on credit profile and banking history.

Which premium credit card has the highest base rewards rate in India?

Axis Magnus Burgundy at an effective 4.8% base rewards rate is the highest among the big four. ICICI EPM, HSBC Premier and HDFC Infinia sit closer to 3.3%. On accelerated travel categories the order changes: ICICI EPM and HSBC Premier hit 36% on hotel bookings, HDFC Infinia 33%, Magnus Burgundy 24%.

Is the joining fee worth it on a premium credit card?

Almost always, if you use the welcome benefits, the milestone benefits, the lounge access, and the points correctly. A INR 12,500 fee on Infinia or EPM is usually recovered just by the renewal voucher. The Magnus Burgundy fee of INR 30,000 + GST needs roughly INR 30 lakh annual spend to waive, so it is worth it only at scale.

Should I close my premium card if I am not using it?

Not without thinking. Closing a card can hurt your credit utilisation ratio and your credit history length. Downgrade or product-change first; close only if there is no free or lower-fee variant of the same line.
